CASE STUDY:

Educational Accreditation

How We Work With Pearson

Further Learning Group was first accredited by Pearson Education in 2014. Since then, Pearson has been helping us evolve as an organisation, as well as supporting our students to develop their skills and knowledge in multiple areas of study.

Educational accreditation is a quality assurance process that Further Learning Group takes very seriously. Our courses are evaluated by an external accreditation body that assesses the quality of our tutoring and coursework, evaluates student learning and determines whether each academy has expertise in their respective academic fields. It is only once these standards are met that we can be granted accreditation.

Pearson Education is the world’s leading learning company. Their mission is to help people make more of their lives through learning. Pearson brings together leading names in education to provide a blend of content, curricula, assessment, training and technology to make learning more engaging and effective.

Pearson offers academic and vocational qualifications that are globally recognised and benchmarked, with educational excellence rooted in names like Edexcel and the British Education and Training Council (BTEC), which is recognised in more than 70 countries worldwide.

How The Partnership Started

Further Learning Group has partnered with these global educational experts to offer BTEC courses (Higher National Certificate and Higher National Diploma) and regulated qualifications (RQF) to our students. These courses allow learners to gain the practical skills needed to enter directly into the workforce and are a recognised route to university, leading to the final year of a degree course or progression on to other professional qualifications.

Our partnership with Pearson started in 2012, as we were looking for a credible and recognised organisation that could provide us with educational accreditation and help us evolve as a higher education provider. For two years, our team members underwent extensive training with Pearson and this allowed us to submit our application for accreditation. After being audited by Pearson, we had our Interior Design HNC and HND BTEC courses approved. The formation of this partnership was a decisive turning point for our evolution as an education provider. In addition to our BTEC Interior Design course, we now also offer BTEC courses in Photography, Fashion Design and Horticulture.

Maintaining Our Partnership With Pearson

BTEC courses are only offered by approved centres whose staff, tutors and courses have been thoroughly vetted and monitored by BTEC standards verifiers.

Pearson conducts an External Examiner visit twice yearly to the Further Learning Group centre. During this visit, we are asked to provide the External Examiner with details such as assessment overviews and plans, grades for all active learners, and all quality and assurance policies and procedures.

The External Examiner will then select several students from across the cohort and sample this work to ensure that the grades are standardised across the academy, as well as within the standards set internationally by Pearson. This review also ensures that Further Learning Group is correctly administering the records of all our learners. In the end, the External Examiner writes a full report, making note of any necessary recommendations or actions that might be required.

The Importance of Partnerships

Accreditation plays a major part in our academic culture and is taken very seriously by Further Learning Group. These specific accreditations create a set of quality standards for our courses, boosts public trust and gives confidence to our students.

Accreditation gives our students the security they need when deciding which course suits them. Students can trust that all the academic content and skills provided by Further Learning Group courses will be recognised by the industry. They also know that these courses are an accredited route to university (equivalent to the first or second year of a bachelor’s degree) which can help students progress onto other professional qualifications.

Overall, our accredited qualifications help our students acquire the practical industry skills, knowledge and confidence needed to launch their careers.
